This course provides in-depth knowledge needed to offer safe and effective massage treatments to laboring and postpartum clients.
Topics will include:
–Benefits of labor and postpartum massage
–Self-care for pregnant clients leading up to labor
–Developing an appropriate intake form for labor and postpartum clients
–Effective and empathic communication with clients/couples
–Overview of musculoskeletal, physiological, and psychological changes – in labor and postpartum
–Cautions and contraindications for labor and postpartum massage
–Universal precautions for working in private and/or hospital settings
–Complications and high-risk pregnancies – special precautions
–Common discomforts of labor and postpartum clients
–Table set-up and positioning (side-lying, semi-reclining, bolsters, and pillows)
–Demonstration and practice of protocols for early and active labor and the 4th trimester (postpartum) incorporating both –Eastern and Western techniques
